Course Objective: Critically evaluate personal experiences from a cultural perspective to explore pop culture and media influences on dress.

SOMATYPES

First, locate and download images of men and women with varying body forms wearing dress that allows you to see their bodies such as swimsuits, activewear, or underwear. Next, sort the images into endomorphs, ectomorphs, and mesomorphs by gender. Insert these pictures into a word document to recreate Sheldon’s chart. Lastly, add the below content within the constructs of no more than two pages.

Content:
a) identify/label endomorphic men and women (at least one man and one woman)
b) identify/label ectomorphic men and women (at least one man and one woman)
c) identify/label mesomorphic men and women (at least one man and one woman)

Reflection:
Reflect about the types of bodies photographed for popular consumption, do any cultural biases inevitably appear? Think about the images you predominately were able to find. Were they mostly of one particular ethnicity? What about body type, did you find mostly one somatotype? You may have found an equal amount. Did you find any cultural bias? Maybe you did for one gender but not the other. Think about our current society's emphasis upon body image. How would you relate that image/expectation to your findings? There's no right or wrong answer. Connect the course content and utilize this opportunity to further your development of a "culturally neutral lens" about dress practices. Reflect on this as it relates to your findings.
