What am I getting into today?

What are you getting into today?

It is that time of day again! Your alarm blares morning and you are off to start a new day. Maybe you have a job interview, maybe you are going on a date, or maybe you are just going to class to get through school. Wherever your day takes you there is one thing you should be aware of getting into…. your clothes. Believe it or not your clothes can make or break the opportunities of the day. According to a

variety of studies it takes a potential employer or a first date only 90 seconds to decide their opinion of you. Whether or not you are conscious of judgements you can be assured they happen. This could mean making or breaking that job or the possibility of a second date with your crush. Does this mean you have to throw away your tie-dye, orange pants or style for the sake of making and keeping opportunities? What about self-expression? If there are rules to what we wear why did fashion icon Iris Apel say “there’s no how-to road map to style. It’s about self-expression and, above all, attitude”. The answer is as simple as the phrase there is a time and place for everything. Fact is we live in a first impression world. How you dress tells others who you are and what you are capable of. Does this mean you should give up your style until you are alone or have personal time? No! There are ways to incorporate your style and still present yourself in a way that can open the door of opportunities. For example, at work make sure to dress professional. If you are feeling bold then you can slab on some red lipstick to make a statement. You can self-express and look professional at the same time. So tomorrow when your alarm wakes you and as you stare at your closest make sure to ask yourself, What am I getting into today?
