Never let Fear get in the Way
While the most important way to promote sexual assault awareness it to fight it and try our best to prevent it, sadly it is still going on. The next step and often the hardest one is what to do after sexual assault has occurred. I have a sister who was raped her sophomore year and it rocked her world. She felt as if she was a just a shell, nothing more. She was able to get help and report her incident and slowly recover. Now she is happier than ever and is graduating from USU with honors including a Robins Award, as well as multiple other research and writing awards. If someone experiences sexual assault, we need to do everything in our power to help them in any way we can. Refer them to the SAAVI office at USU, help them emotionally and with physical needs and most importantly don’t let them believe that one instance where someone took advantage of them defines who they are. Let them know that they are not alone.
