Choosing to Dress According to Your Goals

(Disclaimer; this may offend some and I openly apologize, but I earnestly believe in healthy discussion on both sides of any issue)

In modern society dress has been skewed from its original and most simple purpose. To provide humans with the needed assistance to fulfill our day to day activities and goals. I chose this picture to address this topic because it is an accurate depiction of my dress habits in general. Each and every article of clothing and accessory has a very clear purpose, from my waterproof waders to my polarized sunglasses, each part of my clothing was needed to make this a successful day of fishing in interior Alaska. I had a very clear purpose for the day, catch as many fish as I could. Inline with my objective I dressed accordingly, I took clothes with me that could help me accomplish my purpose. If I were to wear my waders to class on Monday, it would be very uncomfortable and inappropriate. I’m not going to fish in class so that's not how I should dress. If would be just as out of place as a young man wearing joggers and white “Jordan’s” wading out into the middle of the Sustina river with a fly rod.

I see this all the time in our society. We, men and women, wear clothing much more focused on image than practicality. Regardless of weather, men will wear light colored suits and tan shoes in a rain storm and women heals on an icy day. Instead of what will help me out the most, our decision making goes straight to what will “look best.”

Let no one misunderstand the purpose of this article. It is not meant to point fingers at anyone, male or female. Especially those who have ever been effected by sexual abuse in anyway. The purpose is to help us all to gain a different perspective on the dress we have the privilege tp choose from each day. What is our goal for each activity each day? And are we dressing appropriately to achieve our goal? Ladies, you wouldn’t bring snow pants on a Hawaiian vacations and Guys you wouldn’t wear Yeezy’s to summit Everest. We are a generation of limitless potential, choosing to dress according to our goals can be but one step on our way towards achieving it.
