Halloween

I thought this would be perfect for the blog post. I did not create it but it is perfect for the campaign. This is my friends and I dressed up for Halloween. Halloween is a common place for rapes to happen because someone was dressed provocatively. In the words of mean girls "halloween is the one day you can dress like a slut and no one can say anything". My friends and I are dressed trashy and it could be easy out for someone to excuse away a rape because of the way I was dressed. Automatically by the leopard print, heels and tons of makeup i could have easily been made a target.

The other photo is my friends and i dressed up in Wendover, another common place for rape to happen. When in Wendover, we were not in the most sound of mind, but constantly had to be on the lookout for predators. We all were dressed modestly but still got targeted multiple times. We were dancing on our own on a virtually empty dance floor, enjoying the music. A group of guys came and started dancing with us, which was fine at first. Then as songs went on they started circling and trying to section off my friend. Soon enough they were whispering into her ear and forcefully pulling her off the dance floor, trying to convince her to go get drinks with them across the casino. He then pulled her arm and physically dragged her away from my friend and I. Telling her that the drinks were actually in his room upstairs and that it would be a lot of fun. That's when we instantly became aware of the real danger. He had kept telling her how good she looked tonight, that she must have really dressed up to go out tonight. Luckily, we were able to work together and get her out of a potentially dangerous situation and quickly left.

Reasons like this is why the my dress doesn't mean yes campaign is so important. The way we were dressed did not give any excuse for these men to act the way they did.
